Cute bush full of these balls - the balls are a collection of tiny flowers having a very long pistil. Next to the Blanco River. They have these in Chattanooga also by the quarry. I guess it may be safe to say these things like water.
Road construction on Hwy 80 out of San Marcos heading towards Luling. Seems like a major road - maybe a loop around I-10 which is south of here and I-35 which is West of here. It might alleviate some of the San Antonio traffic but Austin would still be slammed.
Same construction - other side of road. Notice how close the water table is to the top. Must be from the good rains last year. I hope the construction doesn't bugger the water table...
This earth mover looked like it should be om Mars - or a conquering machine from Terminator...
I think this stuff is sorghum. It resembles corn with a pretty flower cluster/bush on top but only about 4 feet tall.
Luling has an annual Watermelon celebration the last weekend in June. There's even a shop front that is for watermelon seed spitting contests!
I love old gears and machines - inside Zedlers Mill.
Zedlers Mill was unusual in that it was a lot of mills - not just one type. Near as I can tell they process lumber, cotton and grains. They had a whole building that was for holding the corn. This I believe is one of the old cotton gins.
The flue in the river under the mill.
An abstract with two of the ventilators on top of a shed. Nice and shiny because they are restoring the place.
I love funky rusted stuff! This is a drain on a tank out in the field at Zedler Mill.
Inchworm "measuring" this old rusted pulley.
Wow! That afternoon sun just lights these bricks up. I liked the composition and general funky look.
Entering Luling on my bike I noticed a pervasive petroleum smell. Not overwhelming - just a hint. It apears there's quite a few property owners that have wells on their property and I think these sorts of tanks are used to store the oil until it can be collected. Just a guess.
